In Congress the majority governs, but the minority rules.

Description[]

Town's primary power is their vote, which they must use to vote out all 3 mafia before they lose control. The game starts with approximately ~17 town vote power and to ~7 scum vote power. When there are no remaining double-voters, then town has likely lost because the vote power differential no longer exists.

Do NOT play this setup without having any foreknowledge as it will be borderline impossible to win as town unless Tax Collector is killed early.

Optimal play[]

See the Voting section below to understand how voting fundamentally differs from standard play.

Town should claim when they get converted to provide the rest of town with as much information about the remaining time to Super-CYLO as possible. Therefore, scum are also heavily incentivized to do the same. A possible gambit is to not claim and attempt to bait the night kill posing as an unconverted Representative, but that is difficult to pull off, and reduces the information available to town.

Town PRs should actually be the ones trying to bait the night kill/conversion in order to protect the Representatives. The purpose of the PRs is to provide a fallback in the event of even splits (Jailer) as well as to prevent Crook from outright denying town precious information about the vote split outcome (both Governor and Hangman can know/infer which player was the original condemn before any OTs).

Super-CYLO occurs after approximately 2 MLs (killing town) and/or 3 Representatives have died with Tax Collector still alive.

Town[]

Ideally town wants to kill mafia. Killing traitors does not actually advance town's win-con because it removes 1 vote power from scum while town has the potential to lose 3 the following night.

Governor[]

Should try and overturn the vote onto a mafia member (obviously)

Hangman[]

Hangman should cancel a condemning when they feel the person being condemned is aligned with town.

Jailer[]

When a vote is tied, jailer should jail the most suspicious person, or someone the town wants information out of. Jailer can then decide if they would like to kill or spare said person.

Representative[]

All Representatives's votes are with 2 votes.

Scum[]

Scum's primary objective is to reduce town vote power to win rather than to kill town PRs.

Crook[]

Can use power to effectively "sweep" the vote result and hide it from town. Doing so allows only Mafia, Governor, and Hangman to know the correct vote outcome and have an info advantage in determining which players are Representative or not, while also putting pressure on Governor and/or Hangman to out to share the information with town in order to aid gamesolving.

Janitor[]

Use power on night 1 because you never know if you will be one of the two people being voted during the day.

Scout[]

Finds Tax Collector

Tax Collector[]

Survive, try to convert as many Representatives as possible.

Traitor[]

Out when you realize that mafia plus traitor are the majority, or when the mafia ask the traitor to out.

Voting[]

The point of voting is to split the vote. On day 1, you will choose two random people to split the vote between. The two chosen people will vote for each other first. Then, everyone else will alternate voting each person until the vote is tied. Because the Representative votes do not show up on the voter list, you won't know who dies until the day is over. Every day after day 1, you will choose two people at random from the list of people who voted for the person that was not condemned the previous day. This is because more Representative votes were on the person that was condemned, and therefore it is likely that a mafia would be among the votes for the other person. By splitting, you both gain info as well as allow a double-voter being voted to protect themselves by voting the other player in the split.

Despite wanting to evenly split the vote the first few days in the game, knowledge about your own vote power can help you achieve your desired condemn.

However, the town cannot split every day since the goal of splitting the vote is to confirm the town both probabilistically and mechanically. Look into your own vote power before choosing two people to condemn. At some point, you will not be able to split and therefore must rely on scum reads. Before starting a vote on two people, look at how many people are AFK and do the math to make sure the vote will be split. Sometimes, a person might have to vote "No One" in order for the vote to split.

Town PR/Converts/Single-Voter[]

Vote who you think is town in a split. This decreases the concentration of double-voters on the player you want to live. As an alternative, to ensure the vote splits, you can also vote each person alternatively (one person, then the next) until the vote is split. Make sure to account for people who might be AFK.

Representative/Double-Voter[]

Vote who you think is scum in a split. This increases the concentration of double-voters on the player you want to die. As an alternative, as explained previously, vote alternating to ensure a split.

Scum/Non-Town[]

Vote who you think/know is scum in a split. This decreases the concentration of double-voters on the player you want to live. As an alternative, as explained previously, vote alternating to ensure a split

Split Vote Analysis[]

Take a simple example (Example 1): 3 Representatives, 1 Mafia, and 2 Traitors are alive and the vote is split evenly with 3 voters each on Alice and Bob. Alice dies. We can conclude that there were at least 2 Representatives (a little over half) voting for Alice because otherwise, Bob would have died. Therefore the following night, the mafia should select their night kill from the Alice voters, and Town should select the following day's condemn from the Bob voters.

With Janitor + Tax Collector conversion, there is a bit more uncertainty about exactly what the vote distribution is/was, but as long as there is a split, all players can draw meaningful conclusions and rank players by likeliness to be a Representative.

Trivia[]

From the perspective of neutralizing town vote power, tax + mafia have up to 3 kill power each night (i.e. kill a Represenative and tax another).

Based on the ball and scale puzzle.
